My house is approx 60 years old. I just noticed some "step" cracks in a basement wall. The wall is part of the cinder block foundation and the cracks are along the morter joints.
Should I panic? How are these type of repairs done? Is it major?

Cracks in a masonary unit foundation can be caused by many things, some cracking is normal. Stair stepping can be caused by lateral loading or settlement. Do cracks map out to floor, cracks in the floor may point to settlement. No cracking in slab may point to lateral loading. One is more serious than the other.A foundation expert in your area could determine cause and options.
