I have a 6 in. drain in my basement (by the furnace and water heater) which appears to be present to drain water from the basement. In heavy rains water comes into the basement from this drain. The water quickly recedes and to date has not caused any damage within our unfinished basement. Does anyone know why this happens? Is there any way I can prevent it? I have had the drain snaked and I have had a camera inside it but the drain makes a turn which prevents us from looking beyond a certain point. Is this something I should worry about? Is this considered "a wet basement" within the industry? Thanks for your help.

It sounds as if you are getting a back flow due to the size of your drain not being able to handle a surge of water during a storm. I would recommend that you contact a reputable waterproofing company and have them give you a quote on installing a back flow valve and also install a basement perimeter drain under your slab.
