  • sinking pilings

I bought a 10-yr-old cedar 2-story built on a lakefront slope. The downhill side is about 6 ft above the ground. The house is supported on a series of 2x12s attached to wooden pilings. I've checked them with a laser level and they vary as much as 5 inches from the highest to the lowest. I don't know how deep the pilings are in the ground, nor if there is any substantial footing under them. Obviously, the house is a mess in terms of drywall & window & door problems. Iwould like to unbolt the 2x12s, jack them up level, shim under them, and re-bolt them to the joists. I'm not flush with money. I don't know if the pilings will continue to sink and undo the repair. Will I be sorry?
