Flooded dirt crawlspace

Hello everyone, I will try to make this as brief as possible. On Dec 1/2007, my house was flooded by an inexperienced restoration company. They broke the main city water line into my dirt crawlspace. Filling it with aprox. 3 ft of water, in a 1100 sq. ft rancher. They immediately had a company come and remove the majority of the water. Within a few hours, the restoration company put dehumidifiers in my living space. NOthing in the crawlspace until 2 wks later...long story short, after a bug infestation, mold issues and their attempt to use dehums to dry out the crawlspace, it never completely dried out. The solution was to pour 4" of concrete in the crawlspace over top of the wet soil. I do have a pending lawsuit against my insurance company as they were the ones that brought this restoration company in. The insurance company, has tried to 'bandaid' the problem. My question/problem is this. I now have problems with my doors in my house not lining up and closing properly (bedroom door is higher than the frame work. I have cracking in my ceiling, crownmoulding that has detached and is aprox. 1/4 inch lower than it should be, my floors are squeeking and seem to be 'soft' ..don't know how else to describe them. I am afraid that there is major 'structual' damage to my home that is causing these problems. Insurance company is saying NO, and that the wood just needs to shrink back. I do not claim to know alot about this but, I definately am not buying into their opinion. I am at a loss as to where to turn...Do I need to have a structual engineer take a look at my home or, someone that specializes in 'dirt crawlspaces' that have been flooded ? Nobody seems to know, so I came upon this site while searching for help and knowledge. If anyone out there has any suggestions, I would be grateful...I told the insurance company I wanted a 'professional' to take a look at the house, they sent me a guy that specializes in 'car accidents', he was in my crawlspace for a total of 6 minutes...he said, "everything is fine, that I should have no concerns". That was 9 months ago and things are just getting worse. INvestigating this guy I find out he specializes in 'car accidents', he is a metal analyst, and has nothing to do or has ever dealt with water damage or a house for that matter. So, frustrated, and not trusting my insurance company...I am trying to see 'who' I need to determine whats going on with my house. I would really appreciate any information that someone here could provide. Thanks, Brenda

Hello Brenda,

Which city and state are you located in? We might have someone in your area to which we can refer you to.

Exclamation Flooded Crawl

Brenda,

So many problems not to mention two repair companies and insurance companies. I know why do we have insurance?

Ok let's take protocal: You need to make sure that it is not possible that having so much water in the crawl space has undermined the footer!!

YES, I would definitely have a structural engineer inspect the foundation!!

Best wishes that this turns out OK.
TJ
