Protecting Electrical Outlets from Leaking

Hi,

I'm the General Manager of the student television station at my college. Our studio is located in the basement of our college union and we have severe leaking caused by an old membrane under the college patio (which we are under). Also, we just installed a bunch of new electrical outlets on our ceiling. The problem is that the leaking is right on top of some of the outlets and causing a dangerous environment for me and my fellow students.
Unfortunately, the college is planning to redo the patio in the summer of 2007 and does not want to spend the money to create a safe environment for current students.

I was wondering if there is any type of waterproofing material that would temporarily work around our outlets until the leaking is fixed permanently. I would greatly appreciate any help and/or advice.

Thanks

Exclamation Electrical outlets and leakage

Stephanie,

Water follows gravity so it would appear that you have a roofing/patio problem. Consider a large seamless poly tarp to cover patio for temporary relief, and/or foam insulation around conduits. This would be difficult and you may not be happy with the results.

This is definitly a serious situation to let go. I do not think that they will be able to wait until next summer let alone 2007. If there is water now with the snow melt, what will be happening with the spring rains??
